Native Cultural Arts Museum (Grouard, AB)

A BRIEF HISTORY
In 1976, the Alberta Vocational Centre decided to open a museum in order to exhibit the works of students in the Native Cultural Arts program. The program has since changed to the Aboriginal Arts and Design program, but the museum is still open.

SIGNIFICANT HOLDINGS
About 40%-50% of the articles on display are from former students. They include artwork, examples of women’s work, men’s tools, and clothing. As well, there is a lot of information on the Native heritage and influences on their culture. There are examples of the forms of transportation such as canoe and dog sled. Exhibits are rotated frequently so there is always something new to see!

GROUARD HISTORICAL VILLAGE
The village portrays a Native village from the 1875 to 1885 period. It contains tents and teepee's. The village is only open for group tours except during open houses. Please contact the museum for an appointment.

ACQUISITION POLICY
Donations are appreciated but must be relevant to either the history of the community, the arts and culture or the historical village.
