Anderson, Frank W. The Ghost Towns Journal: The Dead and Dying Ghost Towns of South East Alberta. Vol. 2. Calgary: Frontier Publishing Ltd., 1973.
    • Anderson's work provides interesting information about ghost town exploration techniques, telling the reader what to look for in terms of artifacts, historic barbed wire, bottles, etc.

    • A fascinating reference work which provides the origins of Alberta community names.
 
Bachusky, Johnnie. Ghost Town Stories II: From Renegade to Ruin Along the Red Coat Trail. Canmore: Altitude, 2003.
    • A number of stories about ghost town residents from the best modern ghost town explorer and writer.
 
Bargery, Mary, and Hinton Municipal Library. Picture Hinton, Entrance, Brule, and Cadomin. Hinton AB: The Hinton Municipal Library, 1999.
    • A local history with memories of former Cadomin residents.
 
Belliveau, Anne. Small moments in time: the story of Alberta's Big West Country. Calgary: Detselig Enterprises, 1999.

Fryer, Harold. Ghost Towns of Alberta. Langley: Stagecoach Publishing Co. Ltd., 1976.
     • The best work on Alberta's ghost towns. A catalogue of the author's extensive research in the 1970s. While some information is now out of date, this work was indispensable for the writing of this guide and a must for thorough exploration of the subject.

    •Biography of Nordegg's founding father.
 
Kyba, Daniel. Exploring the historic Coal Branch a guide to Jasper's front ranges. Calgary, Alta.: Rocky Mountain Books, 2001.
    • Excellent book for the outdoor enthusiast with hiking and biking trails peppered with well written history of the region.
